Yesterday, JasperHansen brought up a poignant point on Lady Jess’s (a_natural_beauty here on DWrecent journal entry on the bravery of creators in comics. He had mentioned the concept of connection as it pertains to humanity, and what connection has been looking like for a while for all of humankind. Responding to a comment I made on Jess’s entry about how connection in today’s age has been suffering an existential crisis of sorts, Jasper went further to really dig into some of the glaring reasons why it seems like these days the world seems to be even more closeted than ever before. In a way, it’s like the Covid-19 pandemic never completely left us. Aside from the persistent menace of the coronavirus in America and anti-vaxxing rhetoric is still as loud as ever, there is a new pandemic that’s taking the world by storm, and this is one that needs our complete undivided attention.

I had explained how the comics industry has taken one blow after another over the past half-decade, with mainstream comics now on their death throes, and their respective cinematic universes practically breathing their last. Retail in the comics world continues to die a slow death, with another deathblow dealt after the industry axed one of its biggest trailblazers; the founder of the pop culture phenom that is “Free Comic Book Day”, Joe Field, has essentially been evicted from his retail shop in Concord, California – Flying Colors Comics. I live pretty close to Concord; in fact, one of my parents worked for a Bank of America accounting firm in Concord for nearly four decades. And to hear that the industry that thrived from this simple idea of a day devoted to free comics and graphic novels told a successful businessman in virtually my own neighborhood, “Sorry Mr. Field, but… your lease is up, and you’re not up for an extension. We appreciate your monumental contributions, but we’re afraid we must let you go. And… well, we don’t really have any compensation or severance for you, either. We wish you luck on your future endeavors.”

Wow. Just like that, a part of a languishing entertainment media industry effectively fired one of its biggest players. Odds are Free Comic Book Day will probably die too, since the honchos in the business are cutting corners every chance they get. The direct market, which is responsible for so many lost opportunities, rejections of fresh ideas that could revive the industry and the integrity of the comic book medium, and more retail comic bookshops closing their doors because of “non-returnable” orders which eventually literally crumbled into dust, have done near-irreparable damage to the business side of comics and, in a way, the perception of the medium as it now is. It didn’t help that 2023 was the year of the “Comics Creators’ Lives Matter” movement when the news of Ian McGinty’s death at the age of 38 was made public; McGinty had died from the stress of a brutal working schedule by his publisher, with completely unrealistic deadlines that literally sapped him of all life. He was the comics industry’s George Floyd, and I don’t use that analogy lightly; the ComicsBrokeMe campaign on Twitter exposed all the criminal, abusive, and immoral ways that the publishers and corporate headmasters of the industry had squeezed the life out of their clients and tried to hide the truth for fear of backlash. But truth came out, the backlash followed, and the two biggest guns in the business – The Big Two: Marvel Comics and DC Comics – made the move to repair the damage and ended up nearly undermining the entire industry. After McGinty’s death, Marvel audaciously reversed their previous acknowledgement of crediting Stan Lee for all the painstaking and powerful ideas and iconic characters Jack Kirby created in a blatant disservice to Kirby’s family, who had fought tooth and nail to preserve his legacy and to get reparations duly owed to him. They don’t call Jack the “King of Comics” for no reason, and his statement from nearly a half-century ago to a young artist at a comic con – “Kid, don’t do comics. Comics will break your heart” – was a grim foresight that came to pass for all struggling creators. And with the industry giving the cold shoulder to the independent comics scene through closed-minded gatekeepers, and even iconic bookstore chains feeling the crunch (anybody remember Borders? Yeah, that name’s ancient now…), it stands to reason why one comic book retailer (I think it was Field) lamented that 2023 could be the end of the industry.

On the webcomics scene, things seem to be devolving too. Over the past decade or so I’ve seen a disconcerting spike in trolls all over the internet; trolling has almost become a trend or fad. Thanks to the birth of social media, the Web has become even more of a double-edged sword than ever before; I’ve seen so many forums and websites dedicated to crushing the hopes, dreams, and ambitions of aspiring comic creators itching to get their feet wet – The Bad Webcomics Wiki is one of the worst offenders. This congregation of abusive, vindictive, and sadistic hermits get off on tearing down creators of popular comics by creating nonsensical “guidelines” that the creators apparently flunked on and then denigrate the artist and their work to their (empty) hearts’ content. The “reviews” I’ve seen on that site made me sick to my stomach – in a world where the Big Two are shells of their former selves, there are people out there who instead of encouraging new and original ideas, get off on declaring themselves the new “gatekeepers” and basically take a Rush Limbaugh approach by completely eviscerating new creators based on their “merit”? It’s inconceivable how a site like that is still allowed exist. Okay, I don’t actually know if it still does; I haven’t bothered to check, and I have no intention of even giving that hate group any clicks.

The wiki once attacked a comic I’m a big fan of, and when the creator responded with a page update clearly explaining why she writes and draws her comic – because it’s a fun hobby to her, and she loves the learning process which helps her to improve with every new episode. She doesn’t have any intention of making a living from it, which is a sentiment I had to accept back in 2010 after numerous failed attempts at creating a publishing business for myself and others – my friend and collaborator on Lil’ Hero Artists, Nick Vollmer, as well as our former publisher, Peter Simeti of Alterna Comics, had to break the hard truth to me that comics is not a viable business venture. A lot of start-up capital is paramount for marketing and creating comics, but the return on investment is never guaranteed and oftentimes, as I learned from those failures, never comes at all.

So, when I saw my friend’s page responding civilly to the Wiki about why she was in this career, I naturally felt inclined to defend her on those grounds, as did so many other fans of hers. We collectively ripped into the arrogant prick from the wiki, dismissing his points as trivial and frivolous. I took a step further and told the jerk that if he hasn’t ever created a comic of his own, then he has no business telling others what makes a good comic or not. If he hasn’t been there, then his “opinion” means jack-shit – if there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s when people act like they know how to do something without having any experience or results to show for it. Hypocrisy is not a badge of honor, it’s a giant “DUNCE” gnome hat.

The Wiki Troll’s response to my sharp disapproval of his “professionalism” was basically telling me to know my place and learn how to spell. It’s funny that he said that; my response held well by grammatical standards, as opposed to his bare-boned simplistic rebuke, which had a typo or two and looked like something a stubborn and disobedient four-year old would’ve written. Unprofessional AND immature. Eventually the Wiki Troll left a parting comment after being soundly owned by all of us (I know; nobody says “owned” or “pawned” anymore, bear with me), saying he would say no more on the subject, but insisted that his hateful and arrogant criticism was legitimate.

And that was it.

Which brings me back to Jasper’s point, and Jess’s statement on bravery in comics. You’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone who believes the world is a happy place today. There are so many unspeakable atrocities happening today – we have two baseless genocides raging, waged by leaders that can be called anything BUT leaders, there’s the accompanying escalating political unrest between them and other nations, there’s threats of nuclear warfare, civil wars and the like, and a climate crisis that’s about to skin the Earth alive as weather experts expect an inferno of a summer steadily approaching. At a time like this, much like during the pandemic, humankind needs escapism. People worldwide are exhausted and sick of the constant “The End Times are coming!” blared out by a mainstream global news media inexplicably fixated more on sensationalizing Hell on Earth and raking in dollars from traumatized communities spanning the globe than actually being “news”.

But much like America had during the Covid lockdown, people are confined to their homes. Only this time, it’s by their own choice – social media use spiked during the pandemic as did the mounting tragedies and casualties. But social media changed over the lockdown, and in many ways, it’s become a tool for terrorizing people’s lives rather than to bring people together. And as I told Jasper, this isn’t just limited to world politics. The isolation over the lockdown and the more attached people have become to social media and the internet in general have negatively impacted humanity as a whole and now, combined with all the strife happening worldwide, we’ve generally become more and more closeted and apathetic to each other. Flame wars are incinerating forums in all areas, be it politics, climate change denial, the problem with proliferation of deadly weapons becoming more available and easier to traffic, and yes, even entertainment. And in entertainment, sadly comics are not an exception.

I’m gonna end with this. For people ranting on how artificial intelligence is the instrument of humankind’s extinction, my question to them is: first off, who created artificial intelligence? Wasn’t it humankind? And therefore, since we humans are flawed by default, it stands to reason that A.I. is also imperfect and has its weaknesses as well. It ain’t A.I. that spells “extinction” for all of humankind – it’s us. We’re at a time where we’re using A.I. to destroy each other in every way, machines have nothing to do with it. Machines do what is commanded by a human; a human has to press the power button to turn a laptop, TV, or video game console on, a human has to plug an adapter into a power outlet to start up a blender, a human has to issue the “save” command in Microsoft Word for the app to preserve a file. We can’t blame A.I. for our problems, we CREATED A.I. Thus, this collective failure to communicate is on us. And with a climate crisis threatening more devastating mood swings in weather, it behooves us to remember how crucial communication and connection are, and to return the concept of entertainment – of escapism – to what it once was. Otherwise, we run the very risk of continuing to hate each other just because we disagree on something, and that’s a horrible way to live.

The head of the Vatican has formally approved same-sex marriages. Any White Christian nationalists out there who have an issue with this? Tough. Your anti-LQBTQ+ "holy crusade" and rhetoric doesn't mean SHIT compared to the voice of God.

Love is strength. It's what God/Higher Power IS. Hate is cowardice and weakness, just like all one-track-minded cultist terrorist people are. FACT.

Welp, looks like Jason has reached another year. I am THIRTY-SEVEN, BABY! And it looks like it's going down with a sure-to-be-awesome Halloween/Double B-Day Celebration (a participant at our center also celebrates their B-day today)!

This B-Day, I got a lotta things to appreciate: my family being closer now than ever, the unexpected many sales I made with my graphic novels (in particular, almost every co-worker of mine at work who bought copies of Sneakers' U-Force Vols. 1 & 2 paid double - yes, DOUBLE - the suggested price; in other words, $40 instead of $20), the completion of two graphic novels: Sneakers' U-Force Vol. 2 and Curse of Creation: Lil' Hero Artists, Vol. 2, and last but CERTAINLY not least... meeting four VERY important people in my life as of right now: Matt Zimmer, Jazz Nevermore, Lady Jess, and TwedeeNimbus, without whom this B-day could not have been more special.

To the future!

Gotta say, I was pissed about yesterday's massacre in Maine. I still find it horrifying that this is the new normal in this country because of money, corruption, obviously racist motives, and most of all, pure hate. And I will continue to condemn this shit as long as I live. But I had a cooldown moment at work today, and I'm more chill now.

I adopted the Serenity Prayer recently, because I was totally fed up with, well, everything after Oct. 7th, when Hamas decided to wipe more than a thousand Israelis off the face of this Earth. I still have a burning hatred towards anyone, or any country, or any continent that believes they're above anyone else. That kind of ideology has stained the concept of humanity from the early ages. The very idea that someone has to end another's life because of a disagreement is the most pungent of bullshit. But I'm not even going to dwell on it anymore, because I can't change it myself. I'm NOT okay with it, but I'm not dwelling on it anymore. And maybe someday, even if not in my lifetime, someone with power will step up and say "To hell with this obsession with guns. It's time for some common sense up in this piece!"

In the meantime, along with the Serenity Prayer, I'm also grateful for today, 'cause it was my first dive into yoga of all things. I read about a lot in the past, and even a Comic Fury webcomic covered it slightly in its newest chapter. I thought it was all "bendy-stretchy" and honestly, some of the poses I saw in the past looked damn painful and nigh impossible for anyone to replicate. But today was something simple, it was seated. It made sense, since our clientele at my job are disabled people, most of them in wheelchairs. Seeing them participating in the class reminded me of the good things in life. It almost felt like I was a parent watching a baby take its first steps, for lack of a better description. And two of our clients just tied the knot, too. Not a bad day, all things considered.

So, I'm gonna look into this stuff, and I'm sure I'll benefit in terms of being at peace with myself. Ditching mainstream media has already done wonders for me, and this can only help me more. So, cheers! 😊

Peace and love to you all,

I heard somewhere that Poland has ousted their extremist right-wing government in an election marked by a MASSIVE turnout. This is proof that autocracy can be dismantled and slain like a dragon. Still going silent on the news, but this does make me hopeful for 2024 here. We're not an autocracy -- we were from 2016 to 2020 (and sweet Lord Almighty, was it disgustingly vile), but never again. The Psuedo-Hitler was kicked out, and will NEVER return. No, not when a HUGE majority of American citizens overall DESPISE him.

I am no longer an "American Christian", and after recent events, I don't really wanna stand and "preach" some more... but I gotta say one last thing for the day. I wanna give a shout-out to a real Natural_Beauty: she goes by "Lady Jess" on Comic Fury. This is also a shout-out to my soul brothas Matt Zimmer and Jazz Nevermore, without whom I would not be the stronger dude I am today.

Nah, man... turn off that organ. And ladies, kill the choir. This ain't church, this is Dreamwidth. I don't need any of that. I just need some eager ears.

Good. A'ight, now. Recently, America lost a trailblazer and the oldest female Senator in American history: the late and great Dianne Feinstein. She hails from my 'hood, a former Mayor of San Francisco, California. She will lie in state this Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023.

Naturally though, while the nation is in mourning, the MAGA numb-nutsacks out there as singing praises. She was anti-assault weapons all the way, and that made her a sworn mortal enemy of this pathetic minority of death-worshipping dipshits.

Lady Jess responded to my lamentations on this heartless derision from the right wing. She said that she recently received the newest copy of TIME Magazine. The thing is, the magazine had the face of another numb-nutsack, the all time king of baseless hypocrisy in social media and apparent apartheid fraternizer Elon Musk. She did what any sensible person these days would do with that mag: chucked it in the trash. I immediately responded with this statement, which I present to all, even those who don't know me, 'cuz I will not stay silent anymore. A wise 80-year old man said: "Silence is complicity." And man, is silence a damning thing these days more than ever. My response:

"That's the way, Milady. ✊🏾

I wanna apologize for the... *ahem*... intensity of this post, it's not how I normally talk. It's just that it infuriates me to no end when it's abundantly clear in any government at any time that dehumanization of those who don't meet the "select hierarchy" takes precedence over fighting for basic human rights for all. That kind of ideology has sparked genocides in the past, like the 1994 Rwandan Genocide in East Africa. I read the books about it, and I'm still horrified that any human could even conceive to push such a narrative -- and by propagandizing it through mainstream media, much like the right-wing is doing in America now, and we've all seen the results.

What really troubles me is your statement about trashing that TIME magazine. That is another part of the problem -- all of mainstream media is giving people who preach this hatred and bloodlust a voice. On online forums -- Comic Fury forums included -- there is a creed that the general community goes by. That is creed is often worded as, "don't feed the trolls". We learn in high school that bullies do what they do because they crave attention. Without the attention, they lose their power and their influence.

Knowing that, I can't for the life of me understand why all mainstream news outlets (CNN and MSNBC are guilty in this too) give these jerkwads airtime or space in their other media. Just on Friday I watched a CNN anchor futilely try to get a Florida politician to clearly condemn Trump's call for Gen. Mark Milley to die by hanging simply because he didn't agree with who I've dubbed the "Turd-in-Chief" on some issue with China. The guy refused to do so, and even tried to pull the typical whataboutism on Democrats. Seriously? When was the last time a Democrat called for a Republican or even one of their own to be killed for something so stupid? When was the last time a Democrat contested an election with violence that killed five of the nation's own top police officers? Why wouldn't the guy address that logic?

Because it's not a matter of he wouldn't. He couldn't. Anyone with even half a brain can put two and two together here. The bully mentality that thrives on attention is clearly at play here, and in the most dangerous way possible. The politician couldn't condemn the threat because if he did, then he too would be put in the crosshairs. That's how it's been working ever since January 7th, 2021 -- defy the bully, or in this case, in the GOP's own words, the Leader, and you will pay... most likely with your life.

President Biden said it perfectly in his address to Arizona to honor the late John McCain, particularly after trashing Trump for his "Hang Mark Milley!" threat, and even made it personal when he condemned Mr. 45's trash-talking about the military he callously accused Obama of disgracing by telling him to his face: "Listen, Mr. 'America's Favorite President'. You don't get to be raised in this country, escape enrollment in the military based on phony excuses, then become Commander-in-chief and dehumanize American warriors who died for your ass. You, who lack government AND military experience, don't get to talk shit about a prisoner of war, a war you never served in. You, who have never served, don't get to decide who in the military dies for treason, when you yourself committed such on January 6th, 2021. And most of all: You have no damn right to diss my son Beau as a sucker and loser, when you faced a global health crisis in Covid-19, even got infected with it -- and ultimately RAN AWAY from your job to 'fix it' in favor of plotting to stay in power and rule as an autocrat... and an illegitimate and immature one at that. You are the only "sucker and loser" here, in every sense of the word. You're a coward, shaking and sweating under your fake blonde toupee because your glory train is on a collision course. You'd best stop the ride, or the crash will come much sooner than you think."

I strongly believe that it's MAGA itself that has the death wish, and come November 2024, that death will arrive on swift wings. America has had enough."

So, there you go. After nearly being screwed by the nation's mental health system and yet finally starting therapy with a therapist who himself believe the system is broken, being singled out for discrimination and refusal of admission by skin color and mental disability at a nightclub in front of my pals by a cocky-ass bowler hat-wearing White guy three Fridays ago (ironically, the club had Black female bartenders), and finally tearing some new assholes (as my buddy Matt so eloquently put it) into a punk-ass bitch on Comic Fury who brought his 4chan bullshit to a hardworking enthusiastic artist's webcomic page to toot his cobweb-clogged horn, I am done with standing by and letting ignorance rape this society, this city, this nation up the wazoo. At the end of last year, I was sickened to see that MAGA fucktards were patrolling polls in many states decked out in their usual gung-ho tactical gear and obligatory AR-15's. Malcolm X was right, to me, this is gonna be the definitive "Ballot or the Bullet" Presidential Election. And I already know who's coming out on top and who's gonna crash and burn. The Turd-in-Chief overplayed his meaty, lumpy orange hand by stupidly letting slip his guilt and his autocratic intentions. You gotta be a flippin' dumbass to broadcast an autocratic agenda, and name it "Agenda 47" to add insult to injury -- geez, for fuck's sake, now you're declaring an electoral victory more than a year from now? What the hell have you been snorting? He's obviously so stupid he had to lie about a lie to cover up a lie and rinse and repeat like 20 times, which always equals a collapsing house of lies.

He fucked up, and all he can do now is stoke fear and call for assassination after assassination. For God's sake,
now his punk-ass is decreeing that all of mainstream media reporters be hanged for treason. Guess his sugar high just spiked from all those damn Cherry Cokes. His head's obviously caving in from the fat of all those pizzas and cheeseburgers.

People, there's no need to even worry about this guy becoming President again. Even if lawyers are too cowardly to invoke the 14th Amendment and this dipshit tries another Jan. 6, remember: He's not President anymore. The only army he'll have is a fringe bunch of rag-tags hillbillies with AR-15's and tactical gear. Countless Proud Boys and Oath Keepers (including their leaders) are quite sealed off from his rallying cries now -- languishing in prison where they should've been years ago. He and his redneck rebels will be facing the
entire fucking American Armed Forces, commanded by none other than the father of a so-called "sucker and loser". And when all is said and done, the mantle of "sucker and loser" will be placed unceremoniously on the head of the man who will be remembered in world history as America's first (and hopefully only) failed autocrat. He will then writhe in obscurity until his last breath and let me say this: his remains will not be buried among the other American presidents who upheld their Oath of Office. They will be buried at sea, hopefully alongside those of Osama bin Laden.

We are on the side of life, MAGA isn't. And after November 2024, that crusade will die a swift death. To close, I will paraphrase Morpheus from the Matrix film franchise.

This is America -- and we are not afraid.

Peace and love to you all.

Mind you, I still use Amazon.com. But as of today, I've lost all respect for the World's #1 Online Retailer.

Why do I feel this way, do you ask?
Well, take a gander at this list for Best Sellers in the Books department, and look at who's #1:

Amazon.com - Best Selling Items in Books Department as of today, 9/23/2023

I saw a link to this "#1 Best-Selling" title from the retail page of another title on Amazon that made my heart sink even further. The title in question was Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation, by the publisher Pantheon, part of its Pantheon Graphic Library.

I also heard that about 3 or so days ago, a Texas middle school teacher was fired for reading this very book to her 8th grade class. She gets fired for doing that 3 days ago, while garbage like this "#1 Best Seller" still holds its place in Amazon's rankings today.

Boy, am I glad I don't live in a red state right now. 'Cause if I were, after seeing this, I'd tell the first politician / "concerned parent" / whoever to look at these stories, these events on Amazon and in mainstream news. And then I'd tell them:

"Alright, listen. I want you to look at this. Really look at this. Look at this, and then record yourself the next time you feel the need to call the Democratic Party the new Confederacy. I want you to listen to that recording of yourself 3 times every day, for 30 days. Afterwards, I don't wanna hear any more bitching about indoctrination, White children's guilt / victimization, and especially freedom for all. Then, I want you to take a Bible -- yes, THE Bible, the one you always claim to study/read religiously and fully believe in -- and swear on it that you believe in your country and the Constitution. Do it, now. I’ll wait."

...

"You’re back? So, you did it? For real? Good. Keep that oath, ‘cause if you break it again, you’ll not only be flipping off your country… you’ll be flipping off your God. I don’t think you want that on your conscience.”

***
As for Amazon, well, I guess they don't have standards anymore. Let it be noted: many independent news platforms have reported that far-right extremists have used Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) print and e-book platform many times in the recent past to publish manifestos and other hate-infested rigamarole and actually make a hefty profit before trying to enact their offenses, get arrested, and then have their accounts suspended and their titles ripped off all storefronts by Amazon itself. The fact that these kinds of people can have that kind of outlet to make money -- to compete in, for God's sake -- the same marketplace as unknown authors (like yours truly) trying to make a splash in an already saturated market is... troubling, to say the least. πŸ˜”

I currently work at an agency in Oakland, California that assists the intellectually and developmentally disabled. I've only worked there for a year and a half, and I was recently promoted back in late July. As everyone close to me knows, I'm a childhood trauma survivor. Yet, despite this horrible past -- some of which was even tolerated by my own family -- I still give my all to serve others in any way I can. Call it being "a flower that blooms in adversity", or what have you. I can't stand it when people pick on others because of their perceived weaknesses of their victims and a gross sense of entitlement. It's standard bully mentality, and on a deeper level, Lesson #1 in How To Be An Abuser 101. I've seen our clients visually hurt when they talk about how the world hates them simply for being different, that they aren't "normal". As if such a universal definition even exists. I've seen firsthand that our clients are capable of creativity, ambition, and kindness that not even some of the richest and most powerful leaders on the planet are capable of. A statement of pride from an accomplished handicapped person trumps the same from a world leader of a nation's corrupt government any day.

But I wasn't aware of the length of cruelty some would go to in order to step on innocents like this here in America. Then I came along this story about United Airlines and their cold rebuttal of the respect all disabled people are entitled to.

When I read this, I'm immediately reminded of ignorant pawn scum like our 45th "president", who openly mocked disabled people during his disgusting idea of a presidential campaign in 2015. To add insult to injury, the guy is clearly disabled himself -- mentally and physically -- in all the wrong ways, quite frankly to a level beyond salvation. And yet, he's automatically embraced as a "very stable genius". Well, last time I checked, pretending to be higher than God Himself was never an indication of mental stability at all. There are names for that kind of "stability": Malignant Narcissism (a form of NPD - Narcissistic Personality Disorder) and "God complex", to name a few. And history has shown that people like this often refuse treatment (or outright embrace the illness; Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Osama bin Laden are fine examples -- and for the record, bin Laden's God complex got him killed) and thus become walking, humanoid weapons of mass destruction.

This also comes after the realization that, by U.S. government standards, I'm disabled. That's right, I'm on Social Security Disability Insurance, due to the frequent mental anguish stemming from my childhood trauma. So I take personal offense to any dissing of disabled people, whether mentally or physically. And I've been the recipient of such maltreatment myself, more so after a recent incident of racist and ableist discrimination directed at me by a White club employee.

Let me very clear: I may live in a (somewhat) free country, but I'm not okay with having to give my tax money to a government that ignores this kind of singling-out. Disabled people -- and those of color more so -- already have it rough enough living in societies intentionally purposed to deny them the care they need. So the higher-ups must either own their roles and do something about it or shut the hell up. Screwing the average citizen has been a method of governing in America for long enough.

Anyway, I could be looking at yet another promotion next week if I play my cards right. Word got out about my background in art (and more specifically, comic books/graphic novels) and I could become an art/creative writing co-instructor for our clients soon. Aside from a one-time illustration teaching gig at a mental health services center back in around 2014, I have no real teaching experience. But our clients want me to try, so what do I have to lose? We'll see, here's hoping it works out.

Later, everyone, and remember:
disability is as much a social construct as race is.
jasonderoga86: The O.G. Lil' Hero Artist (Default)
After talking with Matt Zimmer, A Natural Beauty, and Jazz Nevermore, I was finally able to calm down from what I witnessed last weekend. And to paraphrase Darth Sidious/Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of Star Wars fame, I'll go on the record and the blatant act of hatred and cowardice I witnessed (compounded by the fact I have family in Florida who're now no doubt traumatized) "has left my soul and psyche scarred. But I assure you, my resolve has never been stronger." So I went straight to journaling, a way to vent and process my thoughts when I'm hurt directly or indirectly. I've also sworn off the news for a full week, starting right now. Here's what I wrote:

"Okay, I’ve cooled off somewhat. But let me say this to anyone who will listen: I have family in Florida. I have family in Minnesota. I have family in Texas (Denver, to be exact). So when I see and hear lies about my ancestors’ past – like this absolute insult to humanity saying my people benefited from slavery, that Juneteenth is a “useless holiday” – when I hear “we’re not gonna fix” the gun violence that smears the image of inclusivity that this nation pledges to uphold – and when I see misogyny used as a deterrent from said gun violence, making the public believe that abortion is a sin but a child’s life snuffed by a bullet is unfortunate happenstance – I believe I have a right to say the following: It’s time to cut the bullshit. Humanity is being spat on by a small group of people fearful that their days of comfort and hierarchy are being threatened not just by the good in this nation, but the world as well.

The world is watching us right now and they are HORRIFIED (Well, except for governments that rule by fear. To them it’s just life as usual). I will not stand here and remain silent while my family and good-hearted across the world are being attacked as a means to an end – that end being not leading us forward, but backward, and even backward than backward, to a point where hate governs on a level, in the words of Doctor Strange, “hitherto undreamt of”. That ain’t a future. That, friends, is the end of HUMANITY. That is the REAL End Times. Hypocrisy and hatred aren’t inbred in humanity. They’re born and cultivated, preached. Those of us who still believe in peace and basic human rights have a choice: we can let this blasphemous travesty continue in this country and inevitably spread beyond it to captivate more countries, or we can side with God/Higher Power, however we see him/her/them, and remember that he/she/they are the only TRUE Supreme Being. A person who says God/Higher Power condemns the taking of any life must practice what they preach and not weaponize the Supreme Being for the comfort of a few. That’s not brave. It’s cowardly, disgraceful, and if you wanna go full-on religious: IT’S BLASPHEMOUS."

Friends, I ain't leaving this country. I grew up here, most of my family's here, most of my friends are here. And I'll be damned if some cowards who need to use fear to quench their own fear try to drive me out. Every soul on this soil has earned the right to be here from birth, full stop. They wanna say only God can take a human life? Then they need to fuggin' drop the lies and act like it. They are few and the rest of the country is many. Their tyrannical Savior has no presidential power, so he can do pathetically to mount any kind of offense. And if his little "photo-op" is any indication, I'm thinking if he does mount an offense of any kind, he should know: a Democrat has control of the National Guard and the Armed Forces. I may be wrong, but the Orange Jesus and his ragtag band of rioters could very well wind up staring down the barrel of the very weapons they brandish so proudly. It's decision time for them, too. Die for a malignant narcissistic man-baby or give allegiance back to defending the soil they born on, the soil that they pledged to in elementary.

November 2024 will be an election for the ages. On that day, the true America will re-emerge triumphant, and the world will see just What. We're. Made. OF.
