So apparently what started with Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (which I was pleasantly surprised with when I saw it) is slated to continue on Netflix. I don't think something this huge has happened on that streaming service since the critically-acclaimed One Piece live-action series, which has already been green-lighted for a second season. But it looks like the Pokémon series is getting a full-on proper live-action series of its own.

Titled simply "Pokémon", it looks like our main protagonist, or "Trainer" in this case, will be played by Tom Holland, and naturally it looks like his starter Pokémon will be Pikachu. It's pretty much a given that Ikue Ōtani will provide the traditional voice quips for the world's famous Mouse Pokémon, but I have doubts that it'll speak in the human language given the ending of Detective Pikachu. Regardless, it does look pretty impressive. I remember my friends and I wondering how a live-action Pokémon movie, let alone a series, would work, given the scale and variety of the different Pokémon designs. Detective Pikachu thankfully put those doubts to bed, so I have some good feelings about this upcoming Netflix series.

As of right now, "Pokémon" aims to launch sometime in 2025. Hopefully it'll early 2025, as it'll be a great way to move past what is sure to be a hectic end to 2024.
