Jimmy Carter just turned 100 today, making him the oldest living former President of the United States. He has expressed his desire to live long enough to see Kamala Harris be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. I hope so too.

I say this with a solemn tone, though, because in the midst of this monumental time in American history, there is so much suffering in the world. Two wars, one of which looks like an all-out escalation to just Hell on Earth.

I know my own birthday is coming up, but I can't deny that I'm not as excited as I would normally be; 2024 has turned out to be much worse than 2020 in terms of looking forward. The sense of a total lack of empathy or care that these two wars are tearing the world apart, politicians in various nations tossing aside the well-being of their own citizens in favor of an obsession with settling scores through geopolitical turf wars, and faith leaders calling these wars "immoral" being completely ignored... this whole year has been one depressing clusterfuck after another, to say nothing of my own struggles after a HUGE insurance snafus and my city of Oakland, California...

Anyway, enough doom-and-gloom; this is about Jimmy. Happy Birthday, Jimmy. Hat's off to you, Mr. President. A staunch defender of American ideals, the practice of free and fair elections, and guarding the peaceful transfer of presidential power. ✊🏾😇🎂
